Wild Oats, the yacht, is the Oatley’s interpretation of innovation, outstanding performance and ultimately, success. With Wild Oats, the wines, we are aiming for a similar result – exciting, great value wines that over deliver.
The classic Bordeaux-like blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot has found a home in most winemaking countries and within Australia. Perhaps it’s the delicious hybrid wine it creates where merlot’s plumpness perfectly rounds out cabernet’s great structure and length.
Wild Oats Cabernet Merlot is a bright, vibrant style of red wine with lifted herbal and blackcurrant flavours.
Winemaking Notes: The aim with this blend was to produce a wine with both structure and personality. Whilst matured in predominantly French oak, the wood character does not dominate, allowing the cabernet’s blackcurrant and mulberry fruit to stand to the fore. Will age if you wish but drinks very well right now.
Tasting notes from Peter Bourne, The Wine Man “A classic bouquet of dark currants and dried herbs is enlivened by a hint of sweetly spiced oak. Mouth filling flavours of blackcurrant and ripe mulberries combine easily with a touch of cedarwood and crushed eucalypt leaves. A layer of fine, tight tannins give a gentle yet positive grip to the seemingly everlasting finish.”
