Region: Geelong, VIC
Region Geelong, Victoria
Vintage 2005
Vineyard Steiglitz Road, Sutherlands Creek
Winemaker Scott Ireland
Appearance A dense mid red in hue.
Aroma Blackberry and red fruits provide the foundation upon which secondary flavours of licorice and clove complex the whole. Distinctly regional to Geelong, and Sutherlands Creek in particular, those savoury elements provide a fine counterpoint to the lifted fruit. All of this superbly sculptured by a fresh acidity.
Palate Deeply flavoured, the palate fulfils the promise of the bouquet and emphasises those facets; blackberry, clove and licorice reduced to a savoury intensity with a hint of chocolate. The ‘lift’, so distinct in the nose, plays out along the palate and puts the restrained breadth of the wine into perspective; an elegant Geelong shiraz with the grace of old world style
